The relation between obesity and breast cancer risk in women by considering menstruation status and geographical variations: a systematic review and meta-analysis. BMC Womens Health. 2023 Jul 26;23(1):392. doi: 10.1186/s12905-023-02543-5. PMID: 37496015; PMCID: PMC10373406.

Summary
This research paper explores the relationship between obesity and breast cancer risk in women, taking into account both pre- and post-menopausal status as well as geographical variations. Using a meta-analysis of over 100 studies, researchers discovered that obesity appears to have a protective effect against breast cancer in pre-menopausal women, particularly in European women, while in post-menopausal women, obesity increases the risk of developing breast cancer across various continents. The researchers also identified factors that contributed to the heterogeneity observed across the studies, such as study design, geographical location, and hormonal drug use.
